Lena Waithe is channeling his complicated history with issa rae in a buddy comedy for both of them to star in.
The Emmy-winning actress, producer and writer recently revealed that she is developing a “fun and silly” movie inspired by the “breakup of their friendship,” in which they plan to play versions of themselves.
“I’m working on this movie for myself and Issa Rae,” he told Bustle’s. An adventure at night podcast. “It’s a really cool idea that we’re friends and breaking up the friendship a little bit, and it’s really fun and silly. I was supposed to write beats for her, but in the end I started writing the script.”
Waithe added: “She and I [were] Zooming, talking and discovering what it could be like.”
Noting that the characters are “thinly veiled versions” of the two of them, Waithe admitted: “The names of the characters [are] “Lena and Issa, I’m not even being that imaginative about it.”
He chi The creator said that she and Rae “want” to play themselves in the film. “Issa is going to say, ‘Oh shit, well, now we have to do it,’” Waithe said.
Earlier this month, Waithe told Deadline that her Show time series the chi wants end with its upcoming eighth seasontying with Right, Homeland and Weeds as the network’s second longest-running series.
“As for what the future holds, I still plan to tell stories, continue building community, and make space for all of us to be seen,” Waithe told us.
